After collecting more than 1,800 signed petitions nationwide, Democracia U.S.A. was named the #1 Green Jobs Now National Day of Action organization in the country! We continue to lead in raising awareness nationally by reaching out and educating more than 369,000 Latinos about green jobs, the green economy, and the environment.
Millions of Americans want to serve in the fight against global warming, but lack organized opportunities to do so. Millions of others seek pathways out of poverty or better employment in the clean energy economy, but lack the necessary skills and connections to unions and employers. Untold numbers of cities, businesses, schools and homeowners want to retrofit their buildings, infrastructures and homes — work that would create hundreds of thousands of jobs — but lack the financing to do so. America as a whole is suffering through an economic recession, rising energy prices and energy insecurity, job losses, and an increasing scarcity of hope and common purpose. Americans are looking for solutions.

People of all classes and colors are ready for a new economy – one that uplifts people and honors the planet. Green collar jobs and an inclusive green economy are becoming increasingly important to the Latino community and other minority groups. Blue-collar workers — particularly those left on the bench by a stalled construction industry — are looking for a chance to apply their skills to green-collar work that rebuilds our nation. Low-income communities are keenly aware of the economic promise of a clean energy economy, and are eager to realize the opportunities and second chances it will provide to people and communities that have historically been left behind.
That is why Democracia U.S.A. has launched its Latinos Go Green project in partnership with Green Jobs Now campaign to organize thousands of Latinos and other minorities nationally to act. Many Latinos have already taken that first step towards living a greener, healthier life. Many have already taken a stand by signing our petition for green jobs now. They have all recognized the important impact that the green economy and green collar jobs have on their life. Watch what some have to say about it and see the work that has already been initiated!

Philadelphia Councilwoman Maria Q
on why Green Jobs Now are so important:
It’s important to ask our elected officials to bring about this change! Green jobs now!
I am ready for Green Jobs Now: I urge our elected officials to invest in millions of green jobs and a Clean Energy Corps. We can create new pathways out of poverty and curb global warming at the same time. We will do this by retooling our factories, revamping our schools, and rebuilding our communities. It's time to build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.
